Winter Sale: Bringing the Community Together

The third Sunday of each month throughout the winter has become quite an event. Andrew, the owner of Doud's Market, decided to have a 20% off sale last winter, now a year later island residents get excited about the Big Sale and always make an effort to stop in. In the middle of winter on Mackinac the streets are quiet, but on sale day at Doud's the corner of Main Street is busy with people buying groceries, stopping in to say hello and grabbing a sweet treat or complimentary coffee and hot cocoa. It is nice to see people out and about and supporting a local business.

Towards the end of the sale the produce section looks empty...the next delivery day will be until Tuesday! Then it will be stocked again with fresh greens, fruits, and other delicious produce items.

On Sale Day, there are two lanes running because of the busy rush. Miranda and Lisa are working hard checking customers out.

My mom, Dori, and I made homemade pies for the sale. It's always nice to have an extra homemade touch :)

Yum! We made one more pie, candy crunch chocolate pudding pie - low fat!
In addition, I made mini pumpkin muffins and chocolate chip oatmeal cookies for customers to take as they shop. Everyone looks forward to the event and are very thankful to receive 20% off their groceries. Thanks Doud's Market!
